Anija Lombard is an Austrian soprano with South African roots. She studied at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel under Lena Lootens, including an Erasmus semester at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. Additionally, she did her pre-bachelor at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Graz.
For the 2024–2025 season, she is a member of the Éva Marton International Opera Studio, where she will perform as Second Apparition in Verdi’s Macbeth and Barbarina in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. In June 2025, she will appear as Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen (OFF Theater, Vienna) and Pilatus’ Wife and Soprano 1 in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (Église Saint-Marc, Brussels).
In the 2023–2024 season, she was part of the MM Academy at La Monnaie/De Munt. During her time there, she performed excerpts from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro under the direction of Ouri Bronchi. Additionally, she sang the complete role of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro at In de Praktijk in the Netherlands and at the concert hall of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
Her other engagements include performing in eleven chamber concerts at the Klarafestival in Brussels, where she presented Lied repertoire with pianist Tuomas Kangas. She also participated in the 2024 Opera Festival Asia, singing in concerts across Southeast Asia, including performances in Singapore and Cambodia.
