The soprano possessing extraordinary vocal qualities once again saves a Strauss performance at the Opera. In May she took over the title role of Salome. Her voice and her dance of the seven veils charmed the audience of the Strauss150 Festival. On 9 November, despite the illness of Eszter Sümegi, the opera is going to be a first-class performance thanks to the German soprano in the role of the Kaiserin (Empress) in Die Frau ohne Schatten.
Manuela Uhl studied in Salzburg, Zurich and Freiburg. She started her career at Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe and at the Bühnen der Landeshauptstadt in Kiel where she had already sung important leading roles. Her reprtoire includes several Wagner heroines such as Freia (Das Rheingold), Senta (Der fliegende Holländer), Sieglindie (Die Walküre), und Elisabeth (Tannhäuser). In Berlin, she sang both Venus and Elisabeth in the same performance.
She is also an acclaimed interpreter of the Strauss repertoire all over the world. She sang the title role of Die Liebe der Danae; Kaiserin in Die Frau ohne Schatten at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and in Berlin. She achieved critical success as Chrysothemis in Elektra in Madrid, Munich, Baden-Baden, as Salome in Montpellier, at the Wiesbaden Maifestspiele and in Berlin. She made her debut as Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier in Lepizig. The audience of the Hungarian State Opera saw her as Salome at the Strauss150 Festival last May and June.
Apart from her opera roles she also performes a wide concert repertoire, she has appeared on stages in Tokyo, Munich, Baden-Baden, Rome, Los Angeles, Caracas, Dresden, and Vienna with renowned conductors like Christan Thielemann, Antonio Pappano, Jonathan Nott and Gustavo Dudamel. There are alo several CD and DVD recordings in which Manuela Uhl sings the leading female role.
