Following the favourable results of the extensive testing for corona virus among the ensembles of the Hungarian State Opera, the October rehearsals have been resumed. Therefore, the premiere of Stephen, the King on 17 October 2020 and the series of Swan Lake beginning with 30 October 2020 can go ahead as planned. Due to the COVID-19 situation, however, the institute has modified its November programmes announced earlier.
OCTOBER
Apart from the two productions mentioned above, two further premieres, L'incoronazione di Poppea and the new ballet show Staying Home / Joyful! can also take place on 10 and 11 October 2020 as they require a small number of performers. About the new productions of Le malade imaginaire and Les Enfants Terribles, the Opera will issue a statement later.

NOVEMBER
Productions to take place at the Erkel Theatre: the performances of Swan Lake, La traviata, The Nutcracker will take place for which at least 500 tickets have been sold by the week prior to the performance. At the Eiffel Art Studios: the 5 November premiere and the 8 November performance of The Master and Margarita will take place; the performances of A Streetcar Named Desire will take place for which at least 200 tickets have been sold by the week prior to the performance. Furthermore, the new youth programmes Óperencia (7 November), Wake Up Johnny! (14 November) and Swan Lake for Children (15 November) as well as An Afternoon with Éva Bátori (song recital) on 22 November.
Cancelled performances at the Erkel Theatre: Requiem on 2 November (and 4 November in Békéscsaba), Carmina Burana, the concert version of Samson et Dalila. Cancelled performances at the Eiffel Art Studios: Die Frau ohne Schatten, the concert version of Nameless Heroes, Die Rheinnixen.
The OperaLive series will continue in October and November: four times a week (at 8:00 p.m.) performances are streamed live from the Eiffel Art Studios. OperaWednesday – highlights from cancelled opera productions; Terzet-Trio-Trois – chamber productions by the ensembles of the Opera (Orchestra, Chrous, Ballet); Masquerade – aria recitals by the Chamber Singers of the Opera.
Tickets for the November performances are available from 5 October.
