Miklós Sebestyén was born in Budapest. Following his success at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna, he was invited to perform at many of the world's leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London, Welsh National Opera in Cardiff, Teatro Real in Madrid, the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo, the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen, Opernhaus Zürich, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Theater an der Wien, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Komische Oper Berlin, and the Bregenz Festival.
His principal roles include the title role in Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle; Figaro in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro; Leporello and the Commendatore in Mozart's Don Giovanni; Sarastro in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte; Don Alfonso in Mozart's Così fan tutte; Pizarro in Beethoven's Fidelio; Seneca in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea; Don Magnifico in Rossini's La Cenerentola; Mustafà in Rossini's L'italiana in Algeri; Mosè in Rossini's Mosè in Egitto; Vodník in Dvořák's Rusalka; Dosifey in Mussorgsky's Khovanshchina; King Henry VIII in Donizetti's Anna Bolena; Prince Gremin in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin; Colline in Puccini's La bohème; Timur in Puccini's Turandot; Padre Guardiano in Verdi's La forza del destino; Sparafucile in Verdi's Rigoletto; Banquo in Verdi's Macbeth; Kothner in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg; King Marke in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde; and Celio in Prokofiev's The Love for Three Oranges.
As a concert singer, he has also enjoyed considerable success, with an extensive repertoire of oratorio works by Haydn, Bach, Mozart, and Bartók. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with such distinguished conductors as Riccardo Chailly, Carlo Rizzi, Ádám Fischer, Fabio Luisi, Lorin Maazel, Julia Jones, and Ulf Schirmer.
