Engagements for the 2025/26 season include Giorgio Germont in La Traviata with the Bergen National Opera, Jochanaan in Salome for the New Israeli Opera, Heerrufer des Königs in Lohengrin with the Hungarian State Opera and a return to the Bregenzer Festspiele. He appears in concert with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and London Philharmonic Orchestra (Edward Gardner), Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (Lahav Shani) and Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra (Nicholas Collon). Last season, Smoriginas sang Jochanaan in Salome with the houses of Hannover, Antwerp, Malmö, and Zurich, performed Verdi Requiem with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (Eva Ollikainen), returned to the BBC Proms for Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 13 and made his Bayerische Staatsoper debut as Heerrufer des Königs.
Previous highlights include Donner in Das Rheingold, Tchelakov in Boris Godunov and Escamillo in Carmen for the Royal Ballet and Opera, Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde in Valencia, Escamillo in Hamburg, the title roles of Aleko and The Demon at La Monnaie, Orest in Elektra with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Sir Antonio Pappano) and Jochanaan at the Bergen International Festival (Edward Gardner). He has also performed with the San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Lithuanian National Opera, Norwegian Opera, the houses of Bordeaux, Lausanne, Rouen, Hannover, Dresden and Cologne, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Teatro alla Scala Milan, and the Salzburg Easter and Aix-en-Provence festivals.
In concert, previous engagements have included Szymanowski’s Stabat Mater with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (Edward Gardner) and London Symphony Orchestra (Valery Gergiev), Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra and at the BBC Proms, Dvorak’s Te Deum with the Orchestre de Paris, the Shostakovich Symphony No. 13 with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and Tristan und Isolde with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall (Andris Nelsons). He recorded the role of Pietro in Simon Boccanegra alongside Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Ildar Abdrazakov and Barbara Frittoli, and the role of Escamillo in Carmen with the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle (EMI Classics),
Smoriginas studied at the Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy before representing his country at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. He graduated from the Royal College of Music and was a member of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House.
