Saaremaa Opera Festival

As this year marks the centenary of the independence of the Estonian state, this series, to which we are contributing three opera productions and a gala celebration with audiences of 2000 each night, is especially important to both them and us.

The fabulous Estonian island of Saaremaa has hosted opera festivals for many years – this fortress from the Viking era should not be confused with the castle of Savonlinna in Finland, which – with  similarly excellent facilities and its own rich history – also hosts a summer opera festival (where we were invited to take a production of Don Carlo in 2010).

In 2018, the special guests of the festival will be the Shanghai Opera and the Hungarian State Opera, and all the tickets for our performances sold out a year ago when the contract was signed. As this year marks the centenary of the independence of the Estonian state, this series, to which we are contributing three opera productions and a gala celebration with audiences of 2000 each night, is especially important to both them and us.
