Opera from the Opera!

Opera from the Opera!

Even if we cannot claim, paraphrasing the Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi, that one who becomes an opera singer in Hungary is a fool, he or she nonetheless has several pressing missions to complete. In this unusual pair of years when the Hungarian State Opera must largely do without the Opera House, we have the opportunity to take the essence of our work to Hungarians beyond our borders and the wider world, as well as to rural areas and opera-starved cities in lesser Hungary. This is the goal of the “Opera from the Opera!” four-performance subscriptions, which will run in parallel to the “Puccini’s Italy” season and will be expanded to ten county capitals for this season – and which we intend to repeat in 2021/22, when the Erkel Theatre is scheduled to be closed for renovation. The stops on the four-night “OO subscription” are Veszprém, Kaposvár, Szekszárd, Zalaegerszeg, Kecskemét, Tatabánya, Salgótarján, Eger, Nyíregyháza and Békéscsaba
